Nepal Protest: The movement led by Generation Z in Nepal has toppled the government of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli. The protesters have clearly stated that this movement is not of any party or person, but of the future of the entire generation and the country, while demanding a change of power as well as major changes in governance and administration.
The protesters have included in their manifesto important issues like rewriting the constitution, dissolving the parliament, new elections and investigation of the properties looted by the leaders for three decades. Apart from this, the agitators have announced special schemes to give state honors to the martyrs, curb unemployment and migration and remove social injustice.
The agitators announced that those who lost their lives in this uprising will be officially given the status of martyrs. Their families will be given state honours, recognition and financial relief. After the violent protests, army troops were deployed in Kathmandu and other cities since Wednesday morning. The situation worsened after arson in the Parliament building and attack on the Prime Minister's Office on Tuesday. After this, Oli resigned and left the country.
The army issued a statement saying that some groups were "taking advantage of the situation and causing serious damage to civilians and public property". To control the situation, restrictions have been imposed in many areas including Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Bhaktapur.
22 people died in the Generation Z-led protests on Monday. The protesters protested strongly against the social media ban and corruption. Hundreds of people entered the Prime Minister's Office, after which Oli resigned under pressure and fled the country. The protesters clearly said, "This movement is not of any party or person, but of the entire generation and the future of the country. Peace is necessary, but it is possible only on the foundation of a new political structure."
